I first found Lotus through a link on the old Particle website. I followed it to the old Lotus website, the version with the people in clean suits working in a lab or something. From there I found a link to a mp3 site that hosted a few Lotus songs. The first 3 ongs to pass into my ears were Soma, Umbilical Moonrise and It's All Clear To Me Now. That was in early 2002. I listened to the bands other music for awhile, joined the board in Feb of 2003, soon after became set on writing a book on them, saw them for the first time on 06-18-04 and have slowly transformed into a Lotus geek. Here I am today.
What about you? |

My good friend Ryan kept telling me about a band called Lotus that he LOVED. And I've always trusted his musical tastes (he got me in to Phish, tDB, and more DJ's than I can count). One weekend in January, Lotus was playing one night, and then a Phish cover band the next night at the same place. I was looking for it on the show list, but... I actually don't think it's listed. The date I wrote down was 1/27/2005 (Funk Box, Baltimore, MD). I was blown away. The crowd (altough small) went so crazy, we got a double encore. And since then, I have quite a collection of live shows, seen about 10 or 11 more shows, joined the board that July, traveled thousands of miles to see the guys play, and met some wicked awsome people along the way.
Thanks Ryan! |

I saw them in '04 on CU's campus, they opened for Spearhead at the Fieldhouse. I'd heard them before that, but after that show I started listening. What launched the obsession was 2006-02-11 @ the Fox. The obsesion was furthered by the Waka shows last summer... and on the last Colorado tour I drove to the Ft. Collins show; then stalked the band in the alley behind the Fox to try and get into the 21+ show (Jesse said the list was full)... but I snuck in anyways! (where there's a will, there's a way), and by the third night, I knew who my new favorite band was. |

I was home from college on spring break my freshman year. my break was a week earlier than most of my friends so most of my good friends from town were still away at school, except for my buddy ben who lived/went to school about 45 minutes away. We threw ourselves a little shindig and got pretty rocked and listened to lotus, in all honesty for at least 6+ hours.
Ill never forget listening to umbilical moonset loud as hell at 4:30 AM, crouched down on my hands and knees with ben, our ears just inches from the speaker. blown away. thanks ben, im eternally grateful. |

I went to Bearsdlee Castle (a real castle) in September of '02 to see Phix with my friend Pete. We had a great time. A month later he sent me a link to the beardslee site and a band called Lotus was playing 10-18-2002, one week before trey came to utica 10-25-02. So it was perfect time to go and see another band at the Castle. I clicked on their site at that time it was pretty cool with all the graphics. I went to music link clicked on L'immeuble, at that point I couldn't wait to see them.
They are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. |

MMkay so I had made friends with this person recently, I believe it was around the beginning of sophomore year. We shared similar interests (especially musically) and eventually our paths crossed. Ever since I had met this kid everytime we talked, which usually ended in a musical discussion, he would keep hyping this band Lotus to me.
We all know how these things work. People always talk up their favorite band to you, naturally, I was skeptical to say the least (I mean I hear of 5 new "jambands"--use this term very loosely--everyday). Finally after months of harassment from him I finally decided to meander my way over to the Live Music Archive and check out this band Lotus.
The first show I checked out was 1/9/02 from Billy's (still one of my favorite shows to this date). I thought it was good, after the first few listens I thought it was good but I wasn't about to drop everything and go on tour. Anywho I downloaded another show but somehow it had gotten mislabeled and made its way into that "Unknown dates" category. I was playing Itunes one day, on shuffle, this song comes on. I am overwhelmed by the funk. The funk has grown soo deep I cannot help but get up and dance around my dorm as opposed to doing the reading at hand. The song progresses, farther and farther down a deep spiraling line of light. The song comes to an end, I was stunned. Who was this band? What was this song? And why....whyyyyy was it so damn good?
".....OPO?......" I say to myself, Interesting....
".....Lotus.....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...so this is what Padge meant..."
It was all over after that one song. Next song I listened to was Sid. You can figure it out from here.
Thank you |

| Stonebear Festival in Aug 05. Great day. Sealed it for me. Perfect location, perfect vibe. Gig w/o Chuck but it still had some pretty fine moments. |

I'm a Homegrown Rep. and they sent this promo along with a box of catalogs to hand out in early '03:
Loved the music and got hooked pretty quickly. I then saw my first live show in July of '03 at Billy's (Grand Rapids, MI) |

a taper friend of mine told me to check them out at the northstar bar in 2003. i went not expecting much.
i had never even heard of lotus and based on the description from my friend i didnt really think i was going to be into it. i didnt even bring my taping gear that nite.
the beat and the hooks put me into a great place and as a rmusician i appreciated all the different layers the band was dishing out. and to this day whenever i'm feeling down i know to put on some live lotus to get me groovin again.
so thanks lotus for positively charging my kharma |

| Flower Sermon is pretty much all it took for me. I was more focused on BP the first time I saw them, but the second Murray's show... that was it, and I've been hooked ever since. |

Hearing Umbilical Moonrise for the first time on the Live at KMNR demo and realizing that the boys would be making their own sound very soon...

I'm thinking of starting a thread for people who've been introduced to Lotus by Mr. Padge McQuillan to post and get the hurt out. Seriously though, the time from September 05 to May 06 that I spent living with Padge is what got me into Lotus... the summer before (05) he'd sent me a tape of Sid... my first taste. Then we spent all that time living together and I dare say 95% of the music that was issued from our sound system was Lotus. Our room was situated right in front of the elevator on the tenth floor of our dorm, and the sound made its way to every corner of the floor, too, leaving no one exempt from the Lotus. It was an awesome time, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.... I guess the rest is history. |

I'm actually friends with Luke and Jesse's youngest brother Jordan who I've known since 2nd grade. The first time I heard them was right after Germination came out and moonrise was the first song I heard. A little later that year or the next I saw them live in CU's UMC basement where they played 2 full sets to an audience of around 50.
Hearing Umbilical moonrise and Flower Sermon live definitely blew my mind...
Anyway, after a few more times seeing them at the Fox in Boulder I was hooked for sure and I almost always try to see at least 2 shows when they pass through CO.
The Fox is still my favorite venue to see them at and here is the setlist for their show at the UMC...FUCKIN GREAT, never seen a lotus show like that since...
Set 1
Space In Between,Caywood,Did Fatt, Greet the Mind, Nematode
Set 2
Suitcases and Sandwiches>Umbilical Moonrise, Gemini Conspiracy, Shimmer and Out, Sid Umbilical Moonset, Flower Sermon

This is actually the first time I saw Lotus. My brother gave me a cd of some random live recording. All I remember is jamming to moonrise over and over again. Then he took me to this Billy's show. I was only 19 at the time and from what i remember I liked it a lot. However at this stage in my life I had my Umphrey's blinders on and did not keep my ear to the ground for more Lotus . About 4 years later my friends from UV hippo got a gig at the Indiana Jam bash. I noticed that Lotus was the headliner and thought, "wow I remember those guys. I wonder how they have progressed?" We were all blown away. Thank you Lotus for doing what you do |

| my roommate freshman year at UVM told me about them the night they were playing at Higher Ground on 9/26/08. I listened to a few songs on their myspace, and then made one of the the greatest spontaneous decisions of my life. it was all downhill from there. one of the best setlists ive seen to date. ive been hooked ever since. |
